Rules for participation:
* APPLICATIONS and 2-minute sample DVDs ARE DUE Friday, March 13, 2009.
* Applicants for Middle-HS must be ages 15-20, with first language NOT Chinese.
* Applicants at the Middle School-HS level will perform as part of a TEAM of THREE people, supervised by one teacher/mentor. Each school may have more than one team apply.
* Each team of 3 students will send in a 2-minute SAMPLE DVD with team applications by March 13. This DVD should contain a speaking sample by all three team members, and a portion of your intended performance (dance, song, etc.)
* Each team will prepare 3 segments for the competition on April 3rd:
1. A language selection (speech, narrative, or poem) for up to 2 minutes, to be delivered by one team member;
2. A performance selection (dance, song, martial arts, acrobatics) for up to 2 minutes, to be delivered by one team member;
3. A prepared cultural Q & A section, for all 3 team members to participate in (preparation materials will be on the web ,please see attached info.)
* Please submit team applications & 2-minute sample DVD by Mar. 13, 2009, to: Rebecca McGinnis, CIM, 0134 Holzapfel Hall, University of Maryland, 20742
* Up to 12 teams will be accepted for the final competition. Applying teams will be pre-selected from the pool and informed by March 20 about acceptance.
* Applicants may use their own DVDs, CDs, musical instruments, equipment, or apparatus for accompaniment purposes in final event, with advance notice.
* Attire should be business attire, or traditional Chinese costumes for final event.
* Between the language, cultural performances, and Q & A, the greatest number of points will be awarded for the actual language performance.
* Winning team, including mentor, will go to China for the finals!! Competition Date: Friday, April 3, 2008, 2:00 p.m.- 5:00 p.m. Nyumburu Culture Center Multi-Purpose Room, University of Maryland There will be &&. Food!! Fun!! Prizes!!
* College application form for 8th "Chinese Bridge".
*Middle-High School application form for "Chinese Bridge".
