The Global Communities curriculum consists of two parts: colloquia courses and supporting area courses. Combined, these parts require that you complete 10 credits of coursework. After successful completion of the curriculum, students earn a notation on their transcript that reads: “Global Competencies Demonstrated.”
There are four (4) colloquia courses, each worth one credit. All four colloquia must be completed to earn a transcript notation. Each colloquium explores a different central theme and several subtopics. The themes are derived from the program goals: culture, intercultural communication, and global issues. Subtopics examine specific aspects of each theme over a three-week cycle. Each three-week cycle includes an introduction to the subtopic, a field trip or guest speaker, and time for reflection or discussion. Colloquia courses are taught by dedicated and experienced members of the Global Communities Staff. Study Abroad
Students in the program are encouraged to study abroad. A three-credit short term study abroad experience during the winter or summer can satisfy program requirements in place of a supporting area course. Studying abroad for a semester or year exempts students from taking one colloquium or two colloquia courses.
