Step 4: Following Through

Though this step might seem obvious, following through is of paramount importance if you are serious about pursuing an international opportunity and is just as important as any of the other steps.

Following through is not only important for your success but also showing potential colleagues, teammates and employers your dedication to making this happen.

Some suggestions:

  • Continue to research & network- do not allow large lags of time in between your efforts
  • Follow up with any contacts or organizations that you have spoken with
    • Regularly check in with your professional contacts
    • If you send a resume or application, follow up with a letter or e-mail to confirm receipt and to schedule an interview
    • Write a thank you letter to organizations after an interview
  • Keep up with your timeline so that you do not miss important deadlines
