Getting Started & Planning Considerations
When considering an international volunteer opportunity, there are a few items that you will want to keep in mind during your search:- Type of program: There are different types of programs that yield different experiences and opportunities. Thoroughly researching your options will allow you to select which is the best opportunity for you.
- Health and Safety considerations: Many volunteer opportunities are in rural areas or in countries where there are different health concerns than here in the U.S. Review the Department of State travel advisories for reviews of such considerations for almost every country.
- Finances & Costs: Review the information on finances and costs to determine a budget that will work for you and your international experience.
- Timeline: Create a timeline so that you have enough time to make arrangements and prepare for your international volunteering experience.
