The Office of International Services (OIS) organizes the International Student Orientation to answer questions that may arise as you make your transition to the University of Maryland and to help you complete the SEVIS Transfer process.
OIS has developed a condensed International Transfer Orientation program for students who have already been studying in a higher education setting in the U.S. You will have the option of attending the International Transfer Orientation (1 day) or the regular International Student Orientation (2 days). You will be able to register for classes earlier by attending the International Transfer Orientation. Your attendance at one orientation is required.
Once you have registered for Transfer Orientation, notify OIS about which date you will be attending by contacting the office at internationalservices@umd.edu.
You will be required to attend an additional International Student session at the end of the day (4:00pm). You should bring your immigration documents to the OIS session (current I-20, all previous I-20s, I-94, passport, visa).
Orientation includes:
Documents to bring:
Since you are a transfer student, you currently have a SEVIS I-20 or DS-2019 from your current school. If you have not done so yet, you need to complete the UMCP Transfer In Form to transfer your SEVIS record to the University of Maryland, College Park. If you plan to leave the U.S. over the summer, it is important to use the immigration documents provided by the University of Maryland, College Park (i.e. from I-20 or form DS-2019) upon your re-entry to the U.S.
During Orientation, a parking pass will be necessary to park on campus during the condensed orientation. The Orientation Office for the University will provide a permit once you register.
