International Student Orientation Volunteer Form

The Office of International Services (OIS) is seeking internationally-minded students at both undergraduate and graduate levels who are interested in assisting newly arrived international students with their adjustment to the UM community.

We are happy you are interested in volunteering for the International Student Orientation. . Each year hundreds of new students pack their bags and come to the University of Maryland. This can be a very exciting, yet stressful time for international students. At the International Student Orientation, volunteers introduce new international students to the University of Maryland and life in the United States. Orientation volunteer assignments will occur in July 2013.

What is the commitment?

  • International Student Orientation icebreakers, campus tours, etc.
  • Attend Training session to enhance cross-cultural communication skills, receive information about helping new international students
  • Assisting OIS with checking in new students; being the first person to meet new students; offering advice to new students about housing in the area; finding department advisors; answering questions about forms new students need to fill out, etc.
  • Keep in touch with your new friends throughout the semester!
