International Student Orientation Volunteer Form

International Education Services (IES) is seeking internationally-minded students at both undergraduate and graduate levels who are interested in assisting newly arrived international students with their adjustment to the UM community.

We are happy you are interested in volunteering for the International Student Orientation. Each year hundreds of new students pack their bags and come to the University of Maryland. This can be a very exciting, yet stressful time for international students. At the International Student Orientation, volunteers introduce new international students to the University of Maryland and life in the United States. Orientation will be held from January 20 - 22, 2010.

Why should you volunteer?

  • Enhance your résumé.
  • Gain experience with other countries and cultures.
  • Make new friends.
  • Give back to the community.

What is the commitment?

  • International Student Orientation icebreakers, campus tours, etc.
  • Training session communication skills, info on how to help new international students
  • Assisting IES with checking in new students be the first person to meet new students; help out with house searches, finding department advisors, questions about forms new students need to fill out, etc.
  • Keep in touch with your new friends throughout the semester!
