Undergraduate Admissions
Thank you for your interest in applying to the University of Maryland, College Park. Below is an overview of the application process as well as important information for International Students. Please read carefully before submitting your application to be sure your application is complete. Without all required materials, your application will not be reviewed.
The University of Maryland seeks to enroll international students who demonstrate strong academic performance with records suggesting potential for success at Maryland. Undergraduate admission is competitive and is most often offered to applicants whose academic credentials indicate marks of "very good" to "excellent."
APPLICATION PROCESS:
Apply online at the UM Undergraduate Admissions Office:
Gather the following documents for your Admission Packet:
- International Academic Credentials
Official copy of all previous degrees/diplomas and transcripts issued in the original language with a literal English translation.
- Evidence of English Proficiency
- Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
- For the University of Maryland, College Park to receive your scores, please use the reporting code 5814.
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
- For the University of Maryland, College Park to receive your scores, please use the reporting code 5814.
- If your scores do not meet the minimum requirements (pdf) you will be required to take a placement test through the Maryland English Institute (MEI).
- Based on the results of the MEI examination, it may be determined that:
- The student has satisfactory English language proficiency.
- The student needs more English language training, requiring successful completion of the semi-intensive English Language course at MEI.
- The student needs to complete a full-time intensive English language program before being admitted to the academic program.
- Students who need further English must enroll in the required course during their first semester of study at the University.
- Financial Certification
Proof of liquid finances to cover one year's worth of expenses (tuition, fees, books, insurance, and living expenses) is required to be issued an Immigration document (I-20/DS-2019).
- A current official bank statement from your sponsor. The statement should clearly indicate the name(s) of the account holder(s) and the actual amount of money in the account(s).
- We do not accept loans or non-liquid assets.

If you have dependent(s), please show additional financial support of $4500 for each dependent.
- Visa Documentation
If you are already in the United States, attach copies of your passport, US visa, I-94 card, and all pages of your I-20/DS-2019.
If you are a Permanent Resident or hold another visa status please include copies of the Immigration documents showing your status.
