Pronunciation

English Pronunciation (UMEI006) is a one-semester course for International Teaching Assistants (ITAs) who have taken the MEI ITA evaluation and placed into the course on the basis of their scores on this exam. The class meets two hours per day, two days per week during the fall and spring semesters (it is not offered in the summer.) In addition, students meet with the instructor for approximately three one-half hour small group tutorial sessions during the semester to identify problem areas and acquire strategies for developing their knowledge of and ability to use American English pronunciation. While the course bears no credit, it is the equivalent of 2 credits (4 units). Tuition is $943.

Enrollment in this course is limited to 15. Priority is given to International Teaching Assistants who have been formally appointed, completed the ITA evaluation, and placed into the course on the basis of their results on the evaluation. ITAs should enroll in the course as soon as possible. Prospective ITAs (students whose appointment as a TA is pending) and non-ITAs may enroll in the course on the last day to add classes if space is available.

Tuition remission can not be applied to UMEI courses.
