OIA's central office (1122 Holzapfel Hall) promotes all aspects of the overall OIA mission of enhancing the international activities and character of UMD.

OIA central office personnel

• Manage and administer fiscal operations and resources for all OIA offices

• Oversee print and electronic communications for all OIA units, including production of OIA's newsletter, Maryland International

• Facilitate visits to UMD by representatives or delegations from peer institutions abroad, foreign governments and ministries, or other international organizations

• Offer institutional support and coordination for the various international components of UMD academic units, programs and initiatives, e.g., through the maintenance of a searchable database of campus international experts, and an up-to-date archive of UMD international agreements
  

• Offer institutional support for the international activities of faculty and professional staff, via

• administering small faculty/staff grants programs, to assist with travel or study abroad course development
• assisting faculty/staff applications to Fulbright and other external grants programs
• administering the campus international awards that recognize outstanding work by faculty and professional staff
  

• Organize programming to internationalize the outlook of UMD students, faculty and staff

• Support the development of cross campus initiatives in world regions, such as Sub-saharan Africa, and South Asia/India, that currently do not have an institutional "home" (as do already, e.g., Latin America, East Asia, Middle East).

Among UMD's goals is a significant international experience for all UMD students, whether via a study abroad program, an internship opportunity with international companies, or one of several campus-based programs providing inter-cultural learning experiences.

More than ten percent of UMD students come from outside the U.S., placing Maryland, for more than 15 years, among the top 20 U.S. universities serving international students. We are proud to host these outstanding students, and strive to facilitate a positive learning and living experience for our international students.
