UM International Exchange Agreements

The University of Maryland has signed more than 300 international exchange agreements with 59 countries. View an interactive world map, showing UM's international partnerships. Note that many countries have multiple agreements..

Over the past 35 years, the University of Maryland has entered into educational and scholarly exchange agreements with more than 300 universities, government agencies, and private institutions, worldwide.

A remarkable portion of these agreements arose from the professional interactions of individual members of the UM faculty and staff with colleagues at the partner institution.  UM actively encourages such initiatives, and its continued emergence of as a "globally networked university," as articulated in its 2007-2008 Strategic Plan, Transforming Maryland: Higher Expectations.

In order to facilitate the establishment of new global partnerships, the university has established a campus-wide protocol for the creation of international memorandums of understanding (MOUs).

Each year, the Institute for International Programs produces an International Agreements Report (updated in February) which lists UM's partnerships by country, partner institution, and (where appropriate) those University of Maryland units involved in the collaboration.
