The Office of International Programs sponsors grant competitions twice yearly, and in two categories. Full-time tenured, tenure-track, or permanent faculty are eligible to apply. Each category of grant application requires a brief C.V. (maximum two pages) and a three page description of the request that a non-specialist could readily understand. Individuals receiving awards may not apply again within a one year period, and awards not claimed within one year of the date of the letter of notification will be forfeited. The required applications may be downloaded below. Please note that any incomplete application will not be considered by the faculty award committee.

Study Abroad Course Development Grant (NEW!)

In support of the UM 2008 Strategic Plan Initiative, Maryland in the World: Engaging the Global Community, the Office of International Programs has established a new grant competition to facilitate the development of short term study abroad courses. Departments of successful applicants will receive $4,000 toward the hiring of a replacement instructor to allow a one-course teaching reduction for the applicant, for one semester. The grantee will use this release time to create a 3-credit course, which s/he will lead the following Winter or Summer term. All proposals must be for new courses. Preference will be given to course proposals that are to be taught in new locations, to new students, with unique academic foci not currently covered by existing UM study abroad programs.

Application Deadline: September 15, 2008 for Winter Term 2010 or Summer Term 2010 courses; February 15, 2009 for Summer Term 2010 or Winter Term 2011 courses.
