The Institute for International Programs sponsors grant competitions to which full-time tenured, tenure-track, or permanent faculty at the University of Maryland may apply. Each category of grant application requires a brief C.V. (maximum two pages) and a three page description of the request that a non-specialist could readily understand. Awards not claimed within one year of the date of the letter of notification will be forfeited. The required applications may be downloaded below. Please note that any incomplete application will not be considered by the faculty award committee. Please see the descriptions below for specific requirements and instructions to apply for each type of grant.

International Partnership Seed Grant Competition

In support of the Strategic Plan’s goal of increasing UM’s partnerships with peer institutions in targeted global regions, the Institute for International Programs announces a competition for a limited number of seed grants to help UM units/programs pursue promising international opportunities. Priority regions for such new partnerships are Sub-Saharan Africa, Southeast Asia, and Latin America.  Funding is to be used to help pay for travel by UM teams for substantive discussions with leaders at prospective partner institutions and development of proposed collaborations. 1-1 matching funds from the applicants’ unit/college, or other confirmed source, are required.  Multi-unit or/and cross campus applications are encouraged.  We envision a one week stay in country by a team of 2-3 UM personnel. Successful applicants must utilize their grants within 12 months of receipt, and provide a follow up report documenting the results of their efforts. Unencumbered funds revert to IIP.

Application Deadline: February 14
Maximum grant: $4,000
