Saúl Sosnowski, PhD
Associate Provost for International Affairs
Director, Office of International Programs

In addition to his role as Associate Provost and OIP Director, Dr. Sosnowski also directs the Latin American Studies Center, which he founded in 1989, and is Professor of Latin American Literature and Culture. He chaired UM's Department of Spanish and Portuguese from 1979 to 2000 and has held visiting appointments at other universities in the U.S. and overseas. Since 1995 he has directed the project A Culture for Democracy in Latin America, which includes funded projects in Brazil and Venezuela, and coordinates, with Dr. Edy Kaufman (with University of Maryland's Center for International Development and Conflict Management), a conflict resolution and peace-building initiative in Ecuador and Peru.

 

Joseph ScholtenJoseph B. Scholten joined the Office of International Programs as Associate Director in November 2006. He holds a BA in History and Classical Civilization from the University of Michigan, and an MA and PhD from the Graduate Group in Ancient History and Mediterranean Archaeology at the University of California, Berkeley. Since 2002, he has taught in the Classics Department at UM, where he has led or co-led the department’s winter term study abroad program in Central Italy the past four Januaries. Dr. Scholten has also taught in the Department of History and in the University Honors Program, where he served as Interim Associate Director from August 2005 until October 2006.

 

Lucie Covey, Coordinator, Conferences and International Visitors, is responsible for the International Visitor Program, incoming Fulbright Scholars, the International Faculty Travel and Activity Grants, and planning OIP'S conferences and events. She started with OIP in 1998, after working on Capitol Hill at the Supreme Court and as a financial counsultant. She has a B.A. in Business Administration from the University of Maryland.

 

 

Heather Crudup, Coordinator for Fiscal Affairs and Human Resources, is responsible for the management and administration of fiscal operations and resources for OIP and it’s related offices. She is also the administrator for human resources and benefits for those same offices. Prior to joining OIP in 2001, Heather worked in accounting and human resources for the Federal Government and private industry. She holds a B.S. degree in Management.

 

 

Christopher Irwin, Communications Coordinator and Editor for the Maryland International newsletter, is responsible for the management of departmental communications for all OIP units . This includes working with media organizations on and off-campus; coordinating publications; and managing OIP websites. With many years of experience as a communications professional at the University of Maryland, he holds a B.F.A. from Washington University in St. Louis and an M.Ed in Education from Cabrini College.

 

Kellie Corcoran, Program Assistant for Communications, comes to OIP from the UM Study Abroad Office, where she worked as a Program Assistant/Advisor for the past year. For Kellie, writing and communications has always been a passion, and she looks forward to promoting the value of internationalism to both the UM campus and beyond. Her relevant experience includes a degree in Journalism from Roger Williams University in Rhode Island, work experience as a Public Affairs Writer for her alma mater, and communication internships at CVS Pharmacy headquarters, PBS Television and the Special Olympics of Rhode Island.



Fabián Faccio, Staff Assistant, joined the Office of International Programs in January, 2007. He has been a member of the College Park university community for more than ten years. He holds a BA in Spanish Languages and Literatures and an MA in Second Language Acquisition, both from UMCP. Fabián has served as administrative assistant in the College of Arts and Humanities. He is a professional pianist, the librarian of the McLean Orchestra, and teaches Spanish at Montgomery College.
