January 4-24, 2009

GERM449B / GVPT388T / BMGT398B / HONR348X (3 credits)

This course focuses on modern German politics, business, history and culture. Through lectures, readings, and field visits, we will explore Germany’s place in the New Europe, and how German and European political, business and cultural institutions were shaped and operate today.

TÜBINGEN

The University of Tübingen is a 500-year old German university. Tübingen is located in beautiful surroundings just on the edge of Schwarzwald (the Black Forest), and many of its buildings date back to the 15th and 16th centuries. The city of Stuttgart is only one hour away by train, and Munich is four hours from Tübingen.

BERLIN

Since the opening of the Berlin Wall in 1989, Berlin has undergone dramatic changes which make it one of the most exciting cities in Europe today. Its reinstatement as Germany’s capital in 1991 provides an especially rich background for our studies of politics, business, history, and culture.
