FAQs
The Study Abroad Office is working to ensure that finances do not prevent students from considering international opportunities. If you are planning to study abroad, there are a number of ways to fund your experience.
Students on financial aid can apply some or all of their financial aid package towards their study abroad program. For further information, please visit the Financial Aid page.
There are also a number of partial scholarships available to fund overseas experiences.
We encourage you to read our Finances FAQs section for further information about funding overseas study.
If you need additional money for your summer study abroad program, and you:
1) qualify for federal students loans
2) have unused federal loans
3) would like to use some of your presently unused loan money towards your study abroad trip
...then you should take out however much you need/have available *NOW* while these loans are available for you and can be processed by the Financial Aid Office.
We just want to make you aware that you may have the option to use your unused federal loans. It is up to you if you want to take these loans, which as you know, will eventually accrue interest and need to be paid back later.
Just go into Testudo, click on Financials, click on Financial Aid Inquiry, choose Fall07/Spring08, and then go to My Awards.
If you choose to take out some loan money for your trip, then you will get a financial aid refund which you can use towards your summer study abroad expenses.
We would like to emphasize that we encourage you to look for gift aid first. Please explore this section of our Web site for more possible funding opportunities.
Please contact Dan Beaty in the Financial Aid Office if you have questions about this.
