Pohang Institute of Science and Technology

Undergraduate students at the University of Maryland are eligible to apply to study for a semester or a year at the Pohang Institute of Science and Technology (POSTECH) in Seoul. Exchange students are enrolled as full-time students at POSTECH, so applicants are expected to be self-sufficient and highly motivated. As the University of Maryland does not maintain a permanent faculty presence in Korea, students will negotiate their academic and personal lives largely independently. As a result of this expected autonomy, exchange students have a unique opportunity to truly assimilate into the Korean culture.

In order to qualify for the program, applicants must maintain at least a 3.0 GPA and must have completed 45 credits at Maryland.

Knowledge of Korean is appreciated but not required.

Seoul is Korea's political, cultural and economic center. A thriving metropolis, Seoul is the home of embassies, theaters, stores and high-tech office buildings. Known as one of the most wired cities in the world, students in Seoul can take advantage of Korea's position on the cutting edge of global technology. Yonsei's wooded campus is located only 20 minutes away from downtown Seoul.
