Grenada: Geography

Eligibility

This Geography class is designed for students who are highly motivated explorers, both personally and academically. We seek students who are willing to be engaged in a challenging, new environ well beyond the tourist-level. Students should be very interested in learning about the culture, history, landforms and ecology of these unique, enchanting islands. Students should also be very interested in the hands-on operation of a square-rigged windjammer. Applicants should have at least a 3.0 (B) academic average and the approval of their academic advisor. The lead instructor may waive this requirement.

The program is open to all undergraduates and graduate students as well as faculty members.

Admission to the GEOG 228A is limited to 25 participants. Admission to GEOG 228A is not guaranteed if the minimum requirement standards are fulfilled. Early application is recommended. You may be asked to interview with a member of the teaching team.

Course Expectations

In addition to completing advanced reading assignments, class participants will be required to maintain a journal of the trip, and to make a presentation in the Grenadines on selected subjects.

Before each day’s activities, there will be daily lectures on board the ship.

Credits

Enrolled students will earn 3 Maryland resident credits for GEOG 228: Topics in Regional Geography: The Southern Caribbean.
