Not included: personal expenses, most meals, and international airfare.
The study abroad office will suggest a group flight itinerary that each student is responsible for purchasing independently. Although flight costs are not guaranteed and will vary, we will make every effort to keep airfare to a minimum. The estimated costs for round-trip airfare from the Washington, DC area to Sydney, Australia will be approximately $2,200. Students are advised to purchase refundable tickets and travel insurance to counter any inconvenience caused by a change in the program’s itinerary. Once admitted, you should expect to purchase the flight for the program a few weeks later, usually in mid-October.
Payment information
The program fee is divided into four separate charges that are applied to your account over the course of the fall semester:
(1) A non-refundable $30 application fee is due at the time of application,
(2) Upon admission, student account is charged a $270 non-refundable deposit. Applicants understand that if admitted to the program, they are responsible for paying this deposit, which is non-refundable under any circumstances.
(3) UM $250 Study Abroad Fee, and
(4) Remaining balance of $3,100 ($3,650 - $30 - $270 - $250) is charged upon registration.
All four charges add up to the published program fee.
Program charges will be posted by November 20, 2009. All program fees pertaining to winter term need to be paid by December 20, 2009. Failure to make payment by the deadline will result in a financial charge of 1.5 percent per month and may result in cancellation of your registration. Please monitor your account accordingly through the Testudo financial page.
The Study Abroad Office offers partial scholarships for UM undergraduate students to aid with the cost of attending a Winter Term program. These scholarships are awarded based on academic achievement and financial need. The last day to apply for WT scholarships is Wednesday, September 23, 2009.
