Summer 2010 dates: July 24 - August 14, 2010

“There is no global issue, no political arena, no academic discipline in which the statement of problems and the framing of possible solutions are not influenced by media coverage.”

For three weeks, The Salzburg Academy Program on Media and Global Change will gather undergraduates and graduates together with an international faculty to explore issues related to media and global understanding and awareness.

The intent of The Salzburg Academy Program is:

  • to encourage cross-cultural thinking about the roles media play in global affairs and public policy
  • to help students and faculty evaluate distinctive international media and policy models and consider their advantages and limitations
  • to propose and initiate standards regarding media coverage of issues such as terrorism and climate change

Students will live in residence in the beautifully renovated 17th-century Meierhof building and the world-renowned Schloss Leopoldskron, an 18th-century Rococo palace built by the Prince Archbishop of Salzburg, renovated by Max Reinhardt the co-founder of the Salzburg Music Festival, and used for the von Trapp family home in "The Sound of Music". Full board, including buffet-style breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as coffee/tea breaks, will be provided.

Students should be excited not only about traveling to Salzburg and experiencing Austria's rich history and spectacular cities and mountains, but interested in living and working alongside students from all over the world.

Students are responsible for their own travel to and from Salzburg. Students can fly directly to Salzburg, but those traveling from overseas may want to consider flying to Munich where flights are often several hundred dollars cheaper. From Munich an airport limousine can be taken to Schloss Leopoldskron.
