Students on the Maryland-in-Berlin program have two options for housing during their time abroad.
The Maryland-in-Berlin program will arrange for any interested students to live with a German family during their year or semester abroad. Every year, students find this option to be one of the best ways to improve language ability during the program. When determining placements, the program staff takes cleanliness, safety and host friendliness into consideration. Students staying in homestays are provided with two meals a day, in addition to lodging.
Students who opt not to live in a homestay will be placed in a fully-furnished studio apartment. The program staff will find safe, clean apartments 30 minutes from the FU-BEST campus. Students staying in apartments are responsible for purchasing and preparing their own meals. The apartments do not feature telephone connections or wireless internet.
Housing placement and rent are included in the program fee. Students choosing the homestay option will be charged an additional US$500 for the semester to cover the cost of meals.
