How to apply

Deadline to apply for Spring 2010: October 1, 2009.

The Study Abroad Office is no longer accepting new applications for Spring 2010. The Fall 2010 application will be activated in late October, 2009.

Applications will not be accepted or reviewed until they are complete and all supplementary materials are turned in to the Study Abroad Office.

A complete application includes:

  • Completed online Application for Study Abroad (ELF)
    • Important: Please see Instructions for Using the ELF Application for Study Abroad.
    • Non-University of Maryland students will need to complete a paper application. Please see the Non-UM Students page for details.
  • Official transcript from each college or university and from which you earned at least 10 credits. (Freshmen: please submit high school transcript)
  • 150-300 word personal statement about yourself and what attracted you to this course. Please demonstrate how participation in this program contributes to your overall academic planning, short- and long-term goals.
  • A letter of recommendation from a University faculty member, TA, or undergraduate advisor.
  • Check or money order for $50 made out to University of Maryland. This application fee is non-refundable under any circumstances.

Eligibility

The Maryland-in-London program is open to all students who have a serious interest in learning about British society. Applicants should be open-minded and flexible.

In addition, students must an overall grade point average of at least a 2.75. Students taking courses at London Metropolitan University must maintain a 3.0 GPA in their major.

Students must also demonstrate writing ability, as students will be expected to do a considerable amount of writing in each course. Typically, students meet this requirement by completing an English composition course or another course with similar content.

IMPORTANT: Admissions for the program are made on a rolling basis, and decisions will be given in a timely manner. Early application is advisable. Meeting the minimum GPA requirement alone is insufficient to guarantee admission. All required materials will be considered during the admission process.
