China: Dissecting Martial Arts in China

With a unique mind-body integrated approach, Dissecting Martial Arts, based in Shanghai, centers on first-hand experiences with martial arts masters, artists, practitioners, and scholars to explore the physical, cultural, and social traditions of martial arts and their ramifications on contemporary life. A mind-body integration approach is used. The program provides adequate instruction time for students to learn martial arts moves appropriate to their skill levels.

Faculty and Staff

Ang Chen, Ph.D is an Associate Professor of Kinesiology. Dr. Chen’s expertise is in physical education curriculum and he has seven years of teaching experience in China’s schools and colleges and 15 years in US. Dr. Chen has extensive knowledge about Chinese and Shanghai local cultures as well as the American culture. A bilingual doctoral student in kinesiology will be the teaching assistant for the course.
