Scholarships for Study Abroad
As a University of Maryland student, you have a number of scholarship options available to you. You can apply for need-based scholarships through the Study Abroad Office and/or you can search for study abroad scholarships offered through other organizations.
In an effort to afford the most number of students the opportunity to study abroad, our office offers no full scholarships - all scholarships are partial in relation to your study abroad program fee.
How to Start your Scholarship Search
- Determine your study abroad plans. Where do you hope to study? What program have you chosen? If you have chosen a non-Maryland program, don’t forget to check with your Study Abroad Advisor to be sure that your program is approved for transfer credit!
- If you have not already done so, complete a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Please contact the Financial Aid Office with questions about the FAFSA application.
- Select somebody who can act as a reference for you for your scholarship applications.
- If you wish to apply for a UM Study Abroad Scholarship, download the application from our Web site and submit it to the Study Abroad Office by the scholarship deadline.
- You are also highly encouraged to apply for other scholarships.
