Funding Study Abroad

As you plan for study abroad, remember that costs vary greatly among programs, depending on the type of program, location and length.

Financial Policies and Procedures

Please review the guidelines for Financing Study Abroad to learn more about program costs, billing, and applying financial aid to study abroad costs.

We encourage you to read our Finances FAQs section for further information about funding study abroad.

Additional Funding

Between the cost of an international flight, the exchange rate, and additional program fees, studying abroad can get expensive. However, there are a number of scholarships available to help offset the cost of studying abroad. UMD students can apply to a variety of scholarships based on financial need, academic merit, and personal experiences.

Please note that this is not an exhaustive list and there may be many other scholarships out there - but this list will get you started. This resource is comprised of scholarships that we are familiar with and/or that UMD students have been successful with in the past.

Also be sure to visit the National Scholarships Office in Room 2403 Marie Mount Hall. They can help you identify and apply for national scholarships to help fund study abroad.
