Business, Communications, Engineering and Journalism students at the University of Maryland are eligible to apply to study for a full year at RMIT University in Melbourne. Exchange students are enrolled directly at RMIT, so applicants are expected to be self-sufficient and highly motivated. As the University of Maryland does not maintain a permanent faculty presence in Australia, students handle their academic and personal lives quite independently. Exchange students have a unique opportunity to truly assimilate into the Australian culture.
Founded in 1887, RMIT University is one of the largest universities in Australia and educates more than 60,000 students annually. RMIT students have easy access to the heart of Melbourne, a city of 3 million people that's often called the cultural capital of the state of Victoria. Melbourne offers students the chance to sample world-class cuisine, experience vibrant street life and attend a variety of cultural and sporting events – students often say it’s the perfect place for truly experiencing the "land down under."
RMIT also has a variety of student organizations to suit any interest – from political to artistic, religious to cultural, students can easily become involved in campus clubs. The university also has an RMIT Exchange Club, which organizes a number of excursions and activities throughout the year.
Engineering students can also apply to study in Australia through the Global Engineering Education Exchange (Global E3) Program.
