Accommodations

Students on the Maryland-in-Nice program have two options for housing during their time abroad.

Homestay

The Maryland-in-Nice program will arrange for any interested students to live with a French family during their year or semester abroad. Every year, students find this option to be one of the best ways to improve language ability during the program. When determining placements, the program staff takes cleanliness, safety, location and host friendliness into consideration. Students interested in the homestay option will be asked to complete a questionnaire, so that placements can be based somewhat on student preferences and interests. Students staying in homestays are provided with two meals a day, in addition to lodging.

Apartments

Students who opt not to live in a homestay will be placed in a local apartment. The program staff will find safe, clean apartments close to the center of town and will identify roommates within the program. Students can also choose to live alone in studio apartments if they prefer. Students staying in apartments are responsible for purchasing and preparing their own meals.

Housing Costs

A portion of each students' program fee is used to pay for all rental agency fees and at least the first month of rent in Nice. Students are responsible for paying the remainder of their rent directly to their family or landlord during the rest of their stay in Nice. For approximate housing costs, please see the Dates & Fees page.
