Other Costs
Students on the UM-Macquarie partnership program are responsible for paying their own airfare, room & board, and personal expenses while abroad.
In September 2008, airfare cost around $2,300. The cost of housing is dependent upon the option chosen by each student, but costs an average of $800/month. Food is not included in the program fee, but there are several inexpensive grocery stores and markets around Macquarie's campus. In addition, students should plan to budget about $1,800 a semester for personal expenses, including public transportation, textbooks, class activities fees, entertainment and travel. These expenses vary greatly depending on personal spending choices.
Please note: Housing costs listed on the Macquarie University website are in Australian dollars. As of September 2008, the Australian dollar was equivalent to $0.84 US Dollars. Click here to view the latest exchange rate.
Financial Aid and Scholarships
UMD students can use their university and federal financial aid towards study abroad expenses. In-state students should also be able to use their state aid.
In addition, the Study Abroad Office offers a limited number of study abroad scholarships to deserving UMCP students. Maryland scholarship applications are available on our website and are due by February 15 (for fall or year students) or September 15 (for spring students).
