Spring 2010: 8,700 Euros

Other Costs
Students on the Maryland-in-Leiden program are responsible for paying their own airfare, room & board, and personal expenses while abroad.
In 2007, airfare cost around $800. The cost of housing is roughly €350 - €500 per month. Rent is paid directly to the landlord and students must be prepared to pay for six months. In addition to rent, students are required to pay a residence permit fee of €433 upon arrival in the Netherlands. Students should also budget about €300 - €400 per month for food, travel and other personal expenses, including public transportation, textbooks, and personal entertainment and travel. These expenses vary greatly depending on personal spending preferences.
Please note: All additional cost estimates are listed in Euros. As students pay for housing and food directly, it is important to remember that actual expenses will vary depending on changes in the exchange rate. On March 10, 2008, a Euro was worth about $1.54. Financial Aid and Scholarships
UMCP students can use their university and federal financial aid towards study abroad expenses. In-state students should also be able to use their state aid. Students from other institutions should check with their home financial aid office. In addition, the Study Abroad Office offers a limited number of study abroad scholarships to deserving UMCP students. Maryland scholarship applications are available on our website and are due by February 16 (for fall or year students) or September 15 (for spring students). Study in Leiden students are welcome to apply for these scholarships. Click here for more information.
