Orientation

All UM, College Park students on the DIS program will be required to attend a pre-departure orientation session at the University of Maryland.There is also an on-site orientation in Copenhagen, conducted by the DIS program staff.

*Includes tuition, fees, housing, meals or meal stipend, orientation, and excursions. This fee is paid directly to the University of Maryland, College Park. The University of Maryland's Study Abroad Office retains a $250 fee from DIS. This fee has already been subtracted from the fees listed above.

Other Costs

Students on the DIS program are responsible for paying their own airfare and personal expenses while abroad.

In the 2008-2009 academic year, airfare cost around $1000. Students should also budget about $2,200 for personal expenses during the semester. These expenses may include textbooks, personal entertainment and travel. Each student's individual budget varies greatly depending on personal spending preferences.

Financial Aid and Scholarships

UM students can use their university, state and federal financial aid towards the DIS program fee. Students from other institutions should check with their home financial aid office as to the applicability of their financial aid to a UM study abroad program.

DIS also offers scholarships of up to $2,000 to any student attending the DIS program. For summer study, applications are due on April 1; for fall or year study, applications are due on June 1. See the DIS scholarship webpage for further information.

In addition, the Study Abroad Office offers a limited number of study abroad scholarships to deserving UM students. Maryland scholarship applications are available on our website and are due February 15. DIS students are welcome to apply for these scholarships.
