'Living in a homestay is an opportunity to experience the lifestyle and culture of the people first-hand, while also practicing the target language. It took just about a week to feel like I was a part of the family. I've gone to movies, concerts, and soccer games with the kids, and I've stayed up late ... with my "parents." My "father" and I often talk politics and religion, and all of us always sit down to dinner together each night.' - Ashley Jurinka
'I can't imagine that a more academically and culturally comprehensive Study Abroad program exists than the Freie Universität's FU-BEST [program]. Since arriving in Berlin I have been consistently impressed with the planning and organization that went into making our experience abroad worthwhile; the energetic and helpful staff, educational outings throughout the city, and the diverse offering of content courses have absolutely made this an incredible semester in Berlin!
I can't say enough good things about the program, everyone who is interested in learning more about German culture and improving their language skills in an INCREDIBLE city should consider it!'- Hailey Clark, University of Maryland
'A semester in Berlin is a great option for German majors or minors and especially for out-of-state students who would save on the price cut.
Don't for a second, give up on trying to speak German. You will come across scenarios where you request something in grammatically correct German, but if you show the slightest hesitation, they will immediately respond in English. Reply back in German and let them know you actually want to learn, rather than regurgitate a few phrases.
The city itself is georgeous in its own rustic kind of way, and incredibly safe ... it's definitely worth a year, at the least a semester.' - Sean McTague
