Historic Preservation: Public Houses, Architecture & Community

Summer 2010 dates: July 17 - August 1, 2010

HISP 619P, “Public Houses - Architecture and Community,” is a three week, 3-credit class offered as part of the Program in Historic Preservation. The majority of the course will be spent at Kiplin Hall in Yorkshire with trips to Richmond, Manchester, Stoke-on Trent, York, Newcastle, the Dales, and the seacoast. The course will be taught by Dr. Donald W. Linebaugh, Associate Professor and Director of the Graduate Program in Historic Preservation.

Students will be expected to work independently as well as with a group and will be required to prepare and research some of the sites and regions to be studied prior to departure. This year, the class will participate in a new initiative, “The Pub is the Hub,” launched last year by The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall.

The program fee includes the cost of all accommodations for the duration of the program. Students will be lodged at the Kiplin Hall study center near Richmond.
