Academics

My academic program was great! I did feel totally immersed with respect to a classroom setting because there was no English uttered during any of our courses and that is something you just can't find at an American university and especially for 18 hours a week.

[The class] with Francoise was a wonderful experience. Not only did she teach us French language and grammar, but she helped us assimilate to French culture and taught us everything vital know while living in Nice. She is a great source and is reachable in and out of class. She focused much of the course on what we, as students and as foreigners, needed to know, and it was much appreciated.

Housing

The homestay option allowed me to meet many French people and gave me direct insight in the French culture/mindset. They were also an amazing resource, almost like having your own guidebook at all times for Nice, France, and Europe in general. I feel that my French speaking skills improved primarily because of the homestay experience; we talked at dinner each night and were able to compare cultures and discuss tons of issues (i.e. politics, customs, etc.). A host family also provides you with a lifelong contact in France as well, and gives you less to worry about (food, laundry, etc.) while in Nice.

My homestay has been a fantastic experience, and I could not imagine living here without my host mom and the other students living here.

General Reflections

I believe I have in that I now see things from a different perspective than just an average American college student. My French has obviously improved and I feel like a much more worldly person now. Additionally, I know that I am more independant and confident now. You realize that if you can do all of this travelling and living in other language in a foreign country, you can certainly handle these things at home. I have seen and done so much since I have been here and won't ever forget it. One of the best experiences of my life!
