Graduates from Prince George's county public high schools who are enrolled at University of Maryland and have reached their sophomore year or above are eligible to apply for this scholarship. The award may be applied to either the winter, spring or summer term 2009.
The scholarship is intended to support low-income students, especially those from underrepresented groups, who intend to study abroad in Africa, especially Liberia, Nigeria, Tanzania, Ghana, Senegal and South Africa.
Awardees will be required to leverage their community's investment in them by participating in outreach activities. This may include sharing their experiences in the public schools, serving as mentors to college-bound high-school students, and volunteering in internationally-oriented organizations in Prince George's County.
Students may apply for this scholarship using the UM Study Abroad Scholarship Application.
