Congratulations, scholarship recipients!

In 2008, UM students won prestigious national scholarships to fund their time abroad!

Prince George's County International Ambassador Scholarship

Graduates from Prince George's county public high schools who are enrolled at University of Maryland and have reached their sophomore year or above are eligible to apply for this scholarship. The award may be applied to either the winter, spring or summer term 2009/2010.

The scholarship is intended to support students with high financial need (e.g. Pell Grant eligible), especially those from underrepresented groups such as African-Americans, Latino-Americans, and Native Americans. Preference will be given to those who intend to study abroad in Africa, especially Liberia, Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal and South Africa; however, study in any country is encouraged and will be considered. Thus far participants have studied in South Africa, Spain, France, Chile, El Salvador, and Jamaica.

Awardees will be required to leverage their community's investment in them by participating in activities that encourage others to explore international study.  This may include sharing their experiences in the public schools and on campus, and/or volunteering in internationally-oriented organizations or events in Prince George's County.

Students may apply for this scholarship using the UM Study Abroad Scholarship Application.
