AUR Facilitated Housing: Apartments

Students on the Maryland-in-Rome program live in typical Italian furnished apartments in the neighborhoods surrounding campus. In this setting, students live alongside Italian neighbors, integrating into the community and sharing the experience of daily Roman life. Most apartments are double occupancy, 2-3 bedrooms, with a kitchen, bathroom, and living area with basic kitchen supplies and linens provided. There are typically only a few student apartments in any given building, which helps students feel a part of the Italian community. For complete details about AUR facilitated housing, check out the current AUR Housing Guide.

Housing Costs:

Students pay for housing directly to the American University of Rome before departing for Italy.  Housing costs are separate from the Maryland-in-Rome program fee.  For the 2009-2010 academic year, housing cost are $5,250 for a semester in basic housing.  There is an additional fee for the "Plus 5" option housing.  Payment details will be made available to accepted students.

PLEASE NOTE: Housing fees for AUR-facilitated apartments are paid directly to the American University of Rome in full approximately 2 months before the start of the semester.  Please note that this amount can be covered by financial aid, but financial aid awards do not post until 10 days before the start of the UM semester in College Park.  Students must plan accordingly to pay for housing in advance.

What do past AUR students have to say?

"Our living arrangements were secluded enough to interact with locals but close enough to students to interact with them too."

"I really enjoyed my living arrangement because it was convenient to get downtown to the major sites of Rome and was only a 30 minute walk from the school. I felt my living arrangements really helped me interact with the host culture."

"My living arrangements in Rome were great. I loved my roommates, our apartment was huge and we were in the perfect location. Close to school, close to the train station and a short tram ride from all the major sites!"
