Students at the University of Maryland are eligible to apply to study for a year at the Gesamthochschule Kassel in Germany. Exchange students are enrolled as full-time students at Kassel, so applicants are expected to be self-sufficient and highly motivated. As the University of Maryland does not maintain a permanent faculty presence in Germany, students handle their academic and personal lives quite independently. As a result, exchange students have a unique opportunity to truly assimilate into the German culture.
In order to qualify for the program, applicants must demonstrate proficiency in German and must maintain at least a 3.0 GPA. The Kassel exchange is designed primarily for students in liberal arts or education, so preference will be given to students in these disciplines. Students must be willing to study abroad for a year.
