Undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Maryland are eligible to apply to study for a year at the University of Tübingen in Germany. Exchange students are enrolled as full-time students at Tübingen, so applicants are expected to be self-sufficient and highly motivated. As the University of Maryland does not maintain a permanent faculty presence in Germany, students handle their academic and personal lives quite independently. As a result, exchange students have a unique opportunity to truly assimilate into the German culture.
In order to qualify for the program, applicants must demonstrate proficiency in German and must maintain at least a 3.0 GPA. Students can study abroad for the spring semester or a full year.
Tübingen is a lively picturesque town on the banks of the Neckar river. A small university town of 120,000 inhabitants, Tübingen is an ideal location for study abroad. The University of Tübingen was founded in 1477, so the town and the university are almost inseparable. Located only 15 miles from Stuttgart, Tübingen offers students the benefit of experiencing a typically German town in close proximity to a major metropolitan center.
