The University of Haifa
Founded in 1963, the University of Haifa has quickly become one of Israel’s leading universities, hosting six different faculties: Humanities, Social Sciences, Law, Social Welfare & Health Sciences, Science and Science Education, Education, and a Graduate School of Business. The international students at the University of Haifa add to the diverse mosaic of the University’s 17,000 Israeli students. The city of Haifa is proud of its long-standing record of co-existence and mutual respect among the Jewish, Christian, Muslim, Bahai, and Druze communities. Reflecting and supporting this tradition, the University of Haifa is a multicultural institution in which students benefit from many opportunities for productive interaction.
The City of Haifa
Haifa is Israel’s third largest city. First and foremost a port city for international commerce, it has in recent decades become a major center for Israel’s high-tech industry. Built on Mount Carmel, Haifa is a collection of diverse, picturesque, and easily accessible neighborhoods from the port area in the lower city, to the commercial Hadar area in the middle tier, and the beautiful residential areas on the upper ridge.
A distinguishing feature of Haifa is the co-existence of its ethnically diverse communities who live and work together. It is the world center of the Bahai Faith, and home to Christians and Muslims. Additionally, Jewish communities from Europe, Africa, the Middle East, North and South America, Ethiopia, and India have combined to create a modern Mediterranean city that is truly unique, and a great place to live and learn for a semester!
