British Politics

  • GVPT 399L

British Politics is designed to give students an appreciation of post-1945 British political developments and current political trends. It examines the political culture of Britain and analyzes interaction between the formal government and informal political institutions, a crucial focus in a country where political ideas and organizations have evolved over the course of centuries and have profoundly affected the rest of the world.  Topics include the roles of the Prime Minister, the Cabinet, the Parliament, the workings of party politics, and Britain's involvement in the European Union.
