What is an ISIC? Do I need one to study abroad?

The International Student Identity Card provides students abroad with various benefits, including ample medical evacuation and repatriation insurance. While UM students abroad are not required to purchase an ISIC, they are required to provide proof of medical evacuation insurance, which is often not covered by primary care health insurance. The ISIC is among the least expensive and most reliable options for having medical evacuation insurance, and UM students can purchase the card in the Study Abroad Office.
